There’s a moment that most healers know well.

You’re in a conversation — maybe at a networking event, a family gathering, or even online — and someone says:

“So… how do you do energy work?”

And suddenly, there’s a choice to make.

Do you launch into an explanation about frequencies, chakras, quantum fields, and subtle bodies?

Do you try to make it sound palatable and mainstream, like stress relief or nervous system regulation?

Or do you smile, breathe, and lovingly decline to explain?

For the Healers: You Don’t Owe Anyone an Explanation

Let’s be honest, it’s tempting to explain. To educate. To prove.

Sometimes there’s a place for that.

And not every question deserves an answer in the moment. Especially not one that costs you clarity, energy, or self-trust.

Because here’s the truth:

Energy work is experiential. It lives in the feeling, not in the words. In the sensation of something releasing, the tears that come unexpectedly, the remembering of something ancient and true.

And when someone hasn’t felt it, their mind wants to understand. That’s human, but it doesn’t mean you have to perform.

You are not here to prove the sacred. You are here to protect it.

So the next time someone asks, “What exactly do you do?”, you might extend an invitation instead of an explanation. Perhaps something along the lines of:

It’s something that’s much more powerful to experience than explain. If you’re curious, you’re welcome to book a session.

Clear. Kind. Boundaried. Done.

For the Curious Souls Asking the Question

Thank you for asking because your interest matters.

And, here’s something to consider: When you ask a healer to explain their energy work, you might be asking them to reduce something sacred, subtle, and deeply intuitive into a sound bite.

Energy work often doesn’t translate well into words. Not because it’s mysterious or elitist, but because it’s felt. Even when it can be described, it's not truly known until you’re in it.

Imagine asking someone to explain what falling in love feels like. Or how music heals. Or why a sunset moves you to tears.

Some things need to be experienced to be understood.

So if you’re genuinely curious, the most respectful thing you can do is say yes to the experience.

Let your body, heart, and soul, not only your brain, be the ones who receive the answer.

In a Culture Addicted to Explanation, Let’s Normalize Sacred Boundaries

Not every healing art is meant to be marketed in a three-point pitch. Not every modality is best served by scientific validation. And not every conversation is an invitation to educate.

Sometimes, the most powerful medicine comes after you choose to step into the unknown.

How does energy work, work?

You’ll know when you feel it.

What’s one area of your life where you’ve felt pressure to explain or prove something? Let's talk about it in the comments.
